A fiber grating package which substantially reduces Bragg wavelength variations resulting from axial strain on a fiber. The package includes a fiber segment (16) including a Bragg grating (22). The segment (16) is fixed between two points (12, 14) separated by a distance less than the length of the segment (16). As a result, the grating (22) is bent to allow bending or rotation of the segment in response to changes in the relative positions of the ends of the fiber segment (16). In one embodiment, the package may include a temperature control structure (40) and control electronics (102) for heating the grating (22) to a stable desired temperature using temperature feedback. Electronic control (102) can be internal or external to the package depending size requirements for the package. |
