A fuel injection valve (1) for fuel injection units on internal combustion engines comprises an actuator (10) and a valve needle (3), operated by said actuator (10), for operation of a valve closing body (4) which co-operates with a valve seat surface (6) to form a sealing seat. The valve needle (3) and/or the valve closing body (4) comprise at least one helical channel (35) arranged on the circumference thereof. Said at least one helical channel (35) comprises a variable width along the direction of flow of the fuel. The at least one helical channel (35) experiences an axial shortening of the throttling length thereof, due to the movement of the valve needle in a stroke direction.
