Pyrimidine derivatives of the general formula (I) exhibiting excellent selective herbicidal activity; and herbicides containing the same: (I) wherein R1p and R1q are each independently hydrogen, halogeno, optionally substituted C1-6 alkyl, C1-6 alkoxy, or the like; R2 is halogeno, C1-6 alkyl, cyano, or the like; and Ar is optionally substituted phenyl or an optionally substituted fused -heterocyclic group.
