A cage device (24) for double deck elevators which has upper and lower cages (33, 34) suspended within a main frame (26) by a suspender (50). Further, the upper and lower cages (33, 34) are suspended with respect to the main frame (26) by an odd-number roving system. The spacing between the upper and lower cages (33, 34) is adjusted according to the floor-to-floor spacing by a cage position adjustment driver (35). The upper and lower cages (33, 34) are respectively provided with slack rope safeties (51, 52) for fixing them to guide rails (31, 32).
