The slip ring of an electrical machine,eg, generator or motor has a solid main ring (1) that has an outer periphery machined to receive the commutator pads(2). The location for each pad is in the form of a dovetail cross section groove set at an angle to the axis. The pads have a matching profile and are inserted from the side.
