LIGHT SCATTERING SHEET AND LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE

PURPOSE: To obtain a reflective liquid crystal display using a light scattering sheet and capable of clear display. CONSTITUTION: A mixed solution containing plural polymers (e.g. cellulose acetates) different from each other in refractive index is applied to an optically isotropic transparent base, the solvent is evaporated and a co-continuous phase structure is formed by spinodal decomposition to obtain the objective light scattering sheet. This light scattering sheet isotropically scatters incident light and transmitted light has the maximum value of intensity of scattered light at 2-40° of scattering angle. Transmitted light is therefore scattered with high directivity. The reflective liquid crystal display device has a liquid crystal cell 6 containing a sealed liquid crystal, a reflecting means 5 disposed behind the liquid crystal cell, the light scattering sheet 2 disposed in front of the liquid crystal cell 6 and a polarizing plate 1 disposed in front of the light scattering sheet.
