PURPOSE: To provide a rotary damper capable of efficiently doing assembly operation by providing projection parts engaging with a locking part of a mating component to be attached on both sides in the axial direction. CONSTITUTION: This rotary damper is provided with a housing 11 provided with a shaft support hole 12a on a bottom part 12 and having an open ceiling, an output shaft 21 provided with a flange 22 and rotatably inserted in the housing 11 and having a projection part 24A projecting out from the shaft support hole 12a, a cap 41 inserted in the housing 11 and having the output shaft 21 inserted to a position getting into contact with the flange 22 to close the ceiling of the housing 11 and having the projection part 24B of the output shaft 24 projected to rotatably support the output shaft 21, and viscous fluid 53 filled in a filling space formed with the housing 11, the output shaft 21, a rotor main body 31, an O-ring 51, the cap 41 and an O-ring 52. Rotation prevention means are provided on the projection part 24A, 24B of the output shaft 21 projecting out from the housing 11 and the cap 41.
