PURPOSE: A channel equalizing method in a channel equalizer using field synchronous signals is provided to extend the number of symbols used as training columns among the field synchronous signals, to generate a reference signal for updating tap coefficients, so as to secure a better convergence to improve stability and capacity. CONSTITUTION: A field synchronous signal detector detects field synchronous signals to output start location information of the field synchronous signals, and outputs information showing whether the same channel interference removing filter is used. A reference signal generator(12) generates a reference signal for calculating error signals while updating tap coefficients of a channel equalizer(13), by using the start location information of the field synchronous signals and the information showing whether the filter is used. The channel equalizer(13) calculates the error signals while updating the tap coefficients by using the reference signal, and performs a channel equalization.
