<p>In accordance with the invention, a method for interfacing a data processing system (e.g. 12) to a business-to-business integration system (18) uses an event-based triggering techniques to automatically engage in an electronic transaction between different business entities to minimize errors with human intervention in the transactional process. The creation of a transaction is sensed by detecting the occurrence of a triggering event (S12). Reference data is read for the transaction from an application database upon the detecting of the triggering event (S14).
