The invention concerns a dam system for a water expanse. The system is of the type comprising a valve device (5) mounted pivoting on the floor of the water expanse (2) between a raised position and a lowered position. It is characterised in that it comprises a grid device (9) for protection against downstream fall, in particular for small craft, mobile between a high position wherein it projects above the water expanse above (3) and a retracted position, by the valve device, when the latter moves between said raised and lowered positions. The invention is useful for making dams for water expanses.
