PURPOSE: A semi-transmissive type fringe field switching mode liquid crystal display is provided to selectively control reflectivity and transmissivity by forming one portion of a counter electrode of an opaque metal and forming the other portion of the counter electrode of a transparent metal. CONSTITUTION: A semi-transmissive type fringe field switching mode liquid crystal display includes a lower and upper substrates arranged opposite to each other having a predetermined distance between them, a liquid crystal layer, a counter electrode(307), a pixel electrode, upper and lower horizontal alignment films, and a polarizer. The liquid crystal layer has a plurality of liquid crystal molecules and is placed between the lower and upper substrates. The counter electrode and pixel electrode operate the liquid crystal molecules to form fringe field when voltage is applied to the liquid crystal. The polarizer is placed on the external surface of each of the lower and upper substrates and has a predetermined polarizing axis. The counter electrode divides pixels into the first and second regions. Pixels arranged in the first region are formed of an opaque metal(307b) and pixels arranged in the second region are formed of a transparent metal(307a).
