To lay the bed for a railway permanent way, the rail bed is formed of concrete, and dowels (18) to secure the rails are anchored in the concrete in a positive fit. The dowels are inserted into the concrete as the rail bed (14) is stabilized and while the concrete is still malleable. The dowels are inserted by a machine (16) which travels along the rail bed, to place them in the fresh concrete at equal intervals into raised sections (24) which act as the sleepers. |
