A hydraulic actuation system controls a transmission system (12, Fig1) and clutch (14, Fig1). More specifically, the clutch (14, Fig1) is actuated by a release fork (20, Fig1) operated by a single acting ram, hydraulic slave cylinder (22, Fig1) having a single working chamber (23, Fig1), and is controlled by a clutch actuator control means (38, Fig1). A gear selector lever (24, Fig1) has a number of sensors which produce signals indicative of the selected gear which are fed to a control unit (36, Fig1) which, in turn, controls a gear engagement mechanism (25, Fig1), controlling the shift rail 111, 112, 113 which actually engage the selected gear. A selector member 110 of the engagement mechanism (25, Fig1), is used to shift and select the gear via actuators 115 and 114 respectively. Select actuator 114 is a double acting ram piston 116 which divides the actuator into two working chambers 118, 119, one chamber having a rod 114a extending from one side of the piston 116 to the selector member 110. Shift selector 115 is also a double acting ram piston 117 which divides the actuator into two working chambers 118, 119 and has an operating rod 115a and a balancing rod 115b extending from each side of the piston 117 to give equal working areas on both sides. A main solenoid valve 120 controls the clutch slave cylinder (22, Fig1) via a clutch control valve 122. |
