The snail barrier protects a cultivated area against penetration by snails and comprises pins driven into the ground, each provided with a notch in which the short ends partly of elongated broken ground plates (2) and partly of overlapping, broken and outwardly extending crown plates (3) are clamped by spring force. The plates on their under sides are coated with a water-soluble paste (4) mixed from a surface-active substance and a thickening medium. The plates are formed from 0.3mm hard aluminum and are broken up by plate strips measuring 11 x 100 cm. Along their long sides, the broken process involves approximately 2 cm wide lips (21).
