PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst for removing nitrogen oxides contained in exhaust gas to be discharged from an internal-combustion engine such as an automotive engine, for example a gasoline engine and a diesel engine, a boiler, an industrial plant or the like and to provide a method for removing nitrogen oxides by using the catalyst. SOLUTION: This catalyst is obtained by applying a platinum-deposited fireproof inorganic oxide onto an integrated structure, immersing the integrated structure in the aqueous solution containing at least one substance selected from the group consisting of the nitrate, carbonate and hydroxide of sodium and/or potassium and drying and firing the integrated structure thus treated. The method for removing nitrogen oxides comprises making the exhaust gas in an oxidizable state pass through the catalyst obtained by applying the active component containing sodium and/or potassium, platinum and the fireproof inorganic oxide onto the integrated structure, in the presence of a hydrocarbon. |
