PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dehydrating agent for sludge, having excellent coagulation performance and dehydrating ability, which is capable of forming coarse coagulated flocks and reducing the water content in a dehydrated cake when it is used for treating waste water, especially sewage water. SOLUTION: For the dehydrating agent for sludge, containing a cationic polymer coagulant and an anionic polymer coagulant, the cationic polymer coagulant, which is a salt of poly'(vinylimidazolinic acid), preferably a salt of a branched poly(vinylimidazolinic acid) having a Huggins constant k' of 0.2 to 0.5, when the Huggins constant is measured at 30 deg.C in an aqueous sodium chloride solution of 0.1 mol/l, and a limiting viscosity number [η] of 2 to 15, is used.
