PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance efficiency of data transfer between a printer controller and a printer engine. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus comprises a printer engine 2 for forming an image on a transfer sheet based on image data, and a printer controller 1 for controlling the printer engine 2 to deliver the image data and to receive control data wherein the printer controller 1 and the printer engine 2 are connected through a general purpose bus 3 transferring both the image data and the control data and the printer engine 2 is provided with a circuit 21 for determining the type of data being transferred on the general purpose bus (means for determining the data).
