458,529. Batteries. COMPAGNIE GENERALE D'ELECTRICITE, 54; Rue la Boetie, Paris. Nov. 13, 1935, No. 31471. Convention date, Jan. 14. [Class 53] The positive electrode consists of a grid, per forated plate &c. E o carbon or unattackable metal supported on a porous diaphragm D o wood, rubber, glass woo spun quartz, asbestos &c. carried on a float C in an ammoniaca electrolyte G. The plate E is covered with a layer H consisting of an oxide or salt of lead or of ferric oxide or hydrate which is in contact with the air and with the electrolyte through the capillarity of the diaphragm D. The negative electrode B may be of zinc, magnesium or aluminium. In an example, the plate E is covered with lead sulphate and the electrolyte consists of a solution of ammonium. sulphate. In another example lead chloride is used with a solution of ammonium chloride and in another lead oxide and a solution of ammonium sulphate or chloride. When the acid radical of the electrolyte is the same as that of the salt constituting the layer H the latter is regenerated after having been reduced during the operation of the battery. When ferric oxide is used this may be precipitated in the pores of the carbon plate E by impregnating the latter with a ferric salt and treating it with an alkaline solution. |
