PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing a metal-containing resin having good anti-pollution capability in a short time without trouble of gelation or the like during the synthesis. SOLUTION: This method of producing a metal-containing resin comprises copolymerization of a monomer mixture (c) comprising 1 to 50 wt.% of polymerizable unsaturated monomer containing carboxyl group (a) and 50 to 99 wt.% of other polymerizable unsaturated monomer (b) followed by metal carboxylate formation reaction, where at least the carboxylate formation reaction is performed in the presence of water and a metal oxide or hydroxide, in an organic solvent at the reaction temperature of 100 deg.C or higher, and under pressure, and the amount of water is in the range of 1 to 30 pts.wt. to 100 pts.wt. of the monomer mixture (c). The anti-pollution paint composition comprises the metal-containing resin obtained by the method as an effective component.
