PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a novel quinoline-type compound suitable as a source material for a metal complex which is useful as a fluorescent dye and a material for an organic EL element, and to provide a method for producing the compound. SOLUTION: The quinolime-type compound is represented by formula [1] [wherein R1 and R2 represent each hydrogen atom, an alkyl, an aryl, an aromatic heterocyclic, or a cyano group, and are not hydrogen atoms simultaneously].
