PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for conveniently and industrially advantageously producing a purified phytane triol. SOLUTION: This method for producing phytane triol is characterize in that 3,7,11,15-tetramethylhexadecane-3-ol-1,2-carbonate obtained by allowing 1,2-epoxy-3,7,11,15-tetramethylhexadance-3-ol to react with carbon dioxide in the presence of a lithium halide is hydrolyzed in the presence of a base.
