The present invention relates to a filter medium for purifying water and a method for fabricating a filter medium for purifying water. The filter medium (40) consists of a granular, non-porous material (42) rich in silicon, the said granular material (42) being covered with three different coatings (44, 46, 48), the third coating (48) being an outer coating of manganese dioxide (MnO2). Contact oxidation transforms any iron and manganese dissolved in the water into precipitates insoluble in water. |
