PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a resin emulsion having sharp distribution of particle size preferably used for an aqueous paint having excellent coating properties and coating appearance together with good storage stability and anti-pollution property, and to provide a method of producing it and a resin composition for an aqueous paint including the resin emulsion. SOLUTION: This method of producing a resin emulsion includes the steps of mixing a polymerizable monomer (B-1), a silicon compound and/or its partially hydrolyzed condensate (B-2), an emulsifier and/or a water-soluble polymer compound (B-3) and water, applying mechanical shear to the mixture to form an emulsified liquid (B), and adding (B) in the presence of seed particles (A) dispersed in water to form polymer particles (C). Another method of producing the resin emulsion utilizes polymer particles (C) to form double-layered polymer particles (E) having core/skin structure. The resin emulsion is obtained by the method. The resin composition for aqueous paint includes the resin emulsion.
