PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a saddle type airbag device for a vehicle capable of securing a wide protection area of an airbag without causing an increase in the volume of the airbag even if the device is mounted in front of and near the legs of a seated occupant. SOLUTION: The saddle type airbag device 10 includes an airbag 11, an inflator 41, and a case 47 holding the airbag and the inflator and mounted on a vehicle frame. The airbag 11 is folded into the case 47 for storage near and in front of the legs L of an occupant D seated on a seat 5; when an inflating gas flows into the airbag, it is deployed upwards as it protrudes backwards. A tether 21 interconnecting longitudinally spaced apart walls 13 and 14 is disposed in the portion 11a of the airbag 11 projecting from the case 47 when inflation is complete, the tether limiting the distance between the longitudinally spaced apart walls 13 and 14.
