PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steering column structure for a vehicle capable of effectively rendering absorbing efficiency of an energy absorbing mechanism satisfactory. SOLUTION: This structure includes a steering column horizontal displacement device 15 for moving a steering column 12 toward the front of the vehicle when impact force is applied to a steering wheel 2 from a driver, and a spring piece 16a for easing the impact force applied to the steering column 12. Load applied to a knee protector 27 which limits the movement of a driver's leg toward the front of the vehicle is transmitted to the steering column 12. The structure also includes upper and lower projecting pieces 19e, 19f and hinge bolts 14, 14. At an initial stage of the application to the knee protector 17, the load is transmitted to the steering column 12, and the steering column 12 is moved. After the specified application, the load is not transmitted to the steering column 12. |
