PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing by using glass powder a moisture permeable inorganic membrane which can be used as a wall material or the like for securing comfortable space by adjusting indoor humidity properly and has an excellent humidity autonomously adjusting function. SOLUTION: This method for manufacturing the moisture permeable inorganic membrane comprises treating glass powder or a mixture of glass powder with line in an autoclave to make it porous and impart a steam absorbing/releasing characteristic to it or heat-treating glass powder in an aqueous solution containing one or more alkali metal ions or alkaline-earth metal ions to make it porous and impart the steam absorbing/releasing characteristic to it.
