PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing L-glutamic acid, L-proline or L-arginine useful for foods, medicines, or the like, by a fermentation method, and to obtain a bacterium used in the method. SOLUTION: This bacterium belonging to the genus Escherichia has an L- isoleucine requirement and having an L-glutamic acid, L-proline or L-arginine- producing ability. The method for producing the L-glutamic acid, the L-proline or the L-arginine is characterized by culturing the bacterium in a culture medium to produce and accumulate the L-glutamic acid, the L-proline or the L- arginine and then collecting the L-glutamic acid, the L-proline or the L-arginine from the culture product.
