PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet recorder in which the size of an ink jet head can be reduced while ensuring the volume of a common ink chamber. SOLUTION: The ink jet recorder comprises an ink jet head comprising a common ink chamber for distributing ink from an ink supply source through ink supply holes to a plurality of pressure chambers, and an actuator having a plurality of pressure generating sections corresponding to the respective pressure chambers and applying a pressure for ejecting ink to the pressure chambers, and a cap abutting against the nozzle opening surface of the ink jet head to cover a plurality of nozzles. The common ink chamber in the ink jet head is disposed substantially in parallel with the array of a plurality of nozzles on the side closer to the nozzle opening face than the plurality of pressure chambers. The common ink chamber has protrusions protruding from the wall face thereof in a direction parallel with the nozzle opening face in the vicinity of positions abutting against the cap and the protrusions serve as a scaffold for receiving the cap.
