PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cartridge type horizontal ion exchanger which can easily replace an ion exchange resin to be filled inside, absorb the volume change of the ion exchange resin properly, always keep the uniform filling state of the ion exchange resin, and remove air spontaneously by a simple structure. SOLUTION: This ion exchanger is a removable horizontal cartridge type ion exchanger. A bag body consisting of a water permeable fabric filled with the ion exchange resin is housed in a cylindrical container body. Porous plates are installed on both sides of the bag body, and at the same time, a filter is installed on the downstream side. A pressing means is installed so as to press the bag body in the axial direction of the container body through at least one of the porous plates.
