PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a smoothing apparatus for smoothing the slurry coating layer formed on an almost horizontally fed sheetlike base material. SOLUTION: The smoothing apparatus consists of a smoother 10 arranged above the sheetlike material 7 in the lateral direction of the sheetlike base material so as to hold a predetermined gap with respect to the surface of the sheetlike base material and the under plate 20 arranged on the rear side of the sheetlike base material in opposed relation to the smoother. The pressing force, generated when the smoother is brought into contact with the slurry coating layer 9 on the sheetlike base material, can be received by the under plate and the absorption of the liquid medium in the slurry coating layer by the sheetlike base material is suppressed and, in such a state that the concentration of the solid in the slurry coating layer does not become excessively high, the slurry coating layer can be effectively smoothed. |
