<p>PURPOSE:To provide the picture data compression method in which picture data are compressed at a high compression ratio without deteriorating the picture quality of an original picture. CONSTITUTION:Wavelet transformation 2 is applied to original picture data 1 representing an original picture to obtain picture data 3 for plural frequency bands. Then processing 4 making non-linked components of the picture data 3 zero is executed in picture data 3 at a higher frequency band than a predetermined frequency band of the picture data 3. Then all the picture data 3 to which making 0 processing 4 is made and all the picture data 3 to which no making 0 processing 4 is made are coded in the step 5.</p> |
