PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bill identifying device capable of having a low-cost optimum structure in accordance with the bill to be used. SOLUTION: This bill identifying device 1 comprises a frame unit 2, an identifying unit 3, a pusher unit 4 and a stacker unit 5. Because an identifying part is unitized, the optimum bill identifying device 1 can be constituted by preparing the identifying units 3 each having a minimum function and using the identifying unit 3 in accordance with the bill to be used. In the case that a bill of a new denomination is issued or that forged bill appears, a merely exchange of the identifying unit 3 for an identifying unit 3 wherein measure are taken can cope with the case.
