PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus that can easily convert multi-value image data with a low resolution into image data with a high resolution and a low gradation number. SOLUTION: In the conversion processing to an input image signal read by a scanner 5, an image processing section 34 quantizes the image signal at a fixed threshold in response to the image quality mode to apply gradation processing to the quantized signal. A resolution/gradation conversion processing section 40 applies conversion processing to an output of a gradation processing section 39 in a way that the gradation-number of a 4-value intermediate input image signal is decreased into 2-value, instead the resolution in the main scanning direction and the subscanning direction is doubled. In this conversion processing, correspondence is changed between a low density region and a medium/high density region and a binary output image signal with 1200 dpi is obtained without losing the gradation of the 4-value intermediate input signal with 600 dpi. |
