PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable to supplement a lacked or omitted category information and retrieve a program desired by a viewer without omission of data by analyzing items except a category and program contents information. SOLUTION: This electronic program guide retrieval device can retrieve and indicate suitably a program desired by a user among electronic program guide data containing sentences to show various items information and program contents of broadcasting programs, and therefore, is provided with a category information extracting means to extract a category information through analyzing sentences to show items information except a category information or program contents.
