PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To capture a suitable image showing recorded contents and to plainly indicate it. SOLUTION: A processing control 6 performs expansion decoding processing of data received from, for instance, a first medium recording and reproducing part 7 to reproduce the video signal and to supply it to a display 4, thereby makes the display 4 indicate a still image, and captures as an image data a still image selected according to the instruction information inputted from operating part 3. The processing control 6 selects one of a plurality of image frames having the same aspect ratio and a different size, and decides the image region to be used as the still image through a menu screen. The processing control 6 selects the region surrounded by an image frame as a position for capturing a still image for an image retrieval, to capture the still image. The processing control 6 controls a second medium recording and reproducing part 8, to make image data written and recorded in an information recording medium 2 to be the still image indicated on the menu screen for an image search, and also adjusts the size of the still image when the menu screen is indicated.
