DEVICE FOR EXCITATION OF WAVES WITH PRESET ELLIPTICITY OF POLARIZATION ( VARIANTS )

SUBSTANCE: given device for excitation of waves with preset ellipticity of polarization is characterized by high efficiency of excitation of waves with elliptical or circular polarization with specified total efficiency. Device can be employed in equipment meant for heating of dielectric by means of high-frequency electromagnetic field, domestic microwave ovens and plasma optical radiation sources in particular. In developed device radiator of waves with preset ellipticity of polarization is located in part of wide wall of single-mode rectangular waveguide that limits region bordering on SHF chamber and comes in the form of two spatially separated partial radiators oriented for radiation of waves with mutually orthogonal polarization. Phase centers of partial radiators are positioned in antinodes of distributions of mutually orthogonal surface currents near short-circuiting wall of waveguide at different distances from it and electric lengths of partial radiators are approximately equal to their resonance lengths. In variant of device realizing excitation of circular polarized waves electric length of partial radiator whose radiation center is located at larger distance from short-circuiting wall is somewhat less than its resonance length and electric length of partial radiator whose radiation center is located at lesser distance from short-circuiting wall slightly exceeds its resonance length. Required relationship of intensities of waves with mutually orthogonal polarization as well as required phase shift between them to obtain preset ellipticity of polarization of waves excited in SHF chamber are provided thanks to slight change of relation of electric lengths of partial radiators together with slight change of their location.
