PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus that compresses image data in compliance with the JPEG coding or the like, transmits the compressed data and obtains a compression data quantity in matching with the communication rate so as to effectively utilize a channel capacity of a communication channel and reduce the communication time. SOLUTION: A JPEG coding section 12 applies compression processing to image data read by an original read section 11 and a communication control section 13 transmits the compressed image data to a destination device. The image processor is provided with a storage section 15 that stores quantization tables T1-Tn. A quantization table selector 14 selects a quantization table in matching with the communication speed set by the communication control section 13 and the JPEG coding section 12 applies the compression processing to the image data by using the selected quantization table.
