PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate a jitter-free single optical clock pulse with accurate timing using a simple circuit configuration from a high rate optical pulse train, without lowering the bit utilization efficiency of a packet. SOLUTION: The circuit for generate a single optical clock pulse comprises a sample and hold circuit 1 for receiving the first optical pulse at the head of one optical pulse train (a) in an optical pulse train branched into two and generating a sample hold signal, and an optical modulator 2 for receiving the other optical pulse train (d) in the optical pulse train branched into two and transmitting, as a single optical clock pulse, only the first optical pulse at the head of the other optical pulse train (d) under the control of an output signal (b) from the sample and hold circuit 1.
