PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive image reader that can express high gradation without bringing a sensor to an optical saturation state. SOLUTION: A line sensor 104 receiving a one-line read pulse captures image information of an original face as image data for a time t2 from a preceding read pulse until a read pulse this time. The captured image data are fed to an image controller 107 by each line, where image processing is conducted. The time t2 is shorter than a time t1. The original read position does not coincide with the image data by a difference between one line movement time and a one-line image read time of the line sensor 104, and as shown in Figure 5, lines where read images are in duplicate are aborted and thinned out to obtain an output image (image data).
