PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image region retrieving method, permitting retrieving one region of an image. SOLUTION: When a region is extracted from an inquiry image (specified by a step S1) as a region desired by a user (step S3), an edge is extracted from the image (step S4) and clustered in pixel colors in the image (step S5) and the region is divided, on the basis of the region obtained by the extracted edge and the region obtained by clustering (step S6), whereby the region can be extracted from the image for retrieving the region in the image desired by the user from the regions of a large number of registered images.
