PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a facsimile machine that inserts a text file read by an original cover to a designated page of an original read by an ADF and transmits the resulting file. SOLUTION: The facsimile machine is provided with an ADF and an ADF control section 6. An image text file read by the original cover is inserted to an optional page designated by an operation section 5 in an original set by the ADF and the resulting file is transmitted. For this purpose, first the original cover is used to read image data and the read image data are stored in a SAF 2. Simultaneously, an operator confirms the inserted page on the operation section 5 with a storage device 3 storing various data, which is stored in cross-reference with the read image data file. The even when an original unable to be passed through the ADF is desirably inserted to originals passing through the ADF, the original cover is used without the need for making a copy of the original having only to pass it through the ADF to attain transmission. Thus, the recording paper can be saved and the originals can be transmitted in an optional page sequence.
