The panel consists of a flat rigid backing layer (200) e.g. of plastic, plywood or metal, covered with a flexible material (400) such as a textile or leather, made with edges thinned to about half their thickness (410) for sticking to the edges of the backing layer. The corners of the flexible covering layer are cut away before it is stuck in place. The assembled panels are fastened to a floor or wall surface by self-adhesive pads or strips of Velcro (RTM). A variant can have a foam layer between the flexible material and rigid backing to make quilted padding.
