DECODER AND VIDEO PARSER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve an expansion method and apparatus which functions so as to decode and/or expand a plurality of different coded input signals. SOLUTION: A multiple-standard video decoder has more than one processing stage 36 that is connected through a two-wiring interface and is arranged as pipeline processors. A control token and data token are sent through two-wiring interfaces 31, 42 to transmit both of control and data in the token format. A token decoding circuit 33 is placed at the specified stage inorder to recognize a specified token as a control token intrinsic to the specified stage and to send unrecognized control token along the pipeline. A reconstitution processing circuit reconstitutes such a stage in response to a recognized control token placed on the selected stage to handle recognized already-identified data token.
