PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for extracting place name information which enable detection of a place name description out of a text, also dicision of the class of the detected place name description, and a recording medium recording place name information extraction program. SOLUTION: A place name description detecting means 3 detects a place name description in the inputted text. A place name class deciding means 5 decides the class of the place name description.
