The equipment (13) is enclosed in a cover (14) secured at the ends to the brake cable cover (11). A block (19) is secured to the cable (10) so that as a gear change is initiated the block moves with the cable. A slide contact (22) on the block moves along a row of contact pads (23) connected to the resistance sections of a potential divider so that a voltage signal is produced which can provide visual indication of the gear engaged.
