PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the processing burden of a host computer at data recording by preventing the data in an unrecorded packet from being invalidated when a packet write error occurs. SOLUTION: When a controller 8 receives a packet write request from the host computer in step 1, it performs recording on a packet in step 2, detects the write error in the packet record in step 3, and checks a buffer in step 4. If there is the unrecorded packet except for the packet with the write error in the buffer, the controller 8 goes to step 5 to record the unrecorded packet in a prescribed region on an optical disk then outputs an error report to the host computer in step 6.
