PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader and an image forming device that can provide a drive for carrying an original with a very high efficiency without the need for supplying an excess supply current. SOLUTION: In the case of slow-up start, controlling increasingly a supply current to a stepping motor 16 with attendance on increase in a drive frequency to increase number of revolutions of the stepping motor 16 can efficiently start the stepping motor by suppressing a generated heating value of the stepping motor 16 without the need for supplying an excess current at a low revolution region of the stepping motor 16 at its start.
