The pivot mechanism consists of a link disk (7), fitted to the seat cushion, and a support disk (8), fitted to the seat back, designed to rotate relative to each other around the pivot axis (X). A locking device (6) is designed to automatically revert to the locked position, where it locks the disks relative to each other and is operated by a primary control element (5). A second control element, located at the top of the seat back, and operable by the user, displaces a control arm (10) to allow remote control of the primary control element. The primary control element is displaceable in rotation, around the pivot axis, between a primary position, in which the locking device is locked, and by a primary rotation (f1) into a second position, in which the locking device is one of two unlocked positions, and by a secondary rotation (f2) into a third position, in which the locking device is in the other of the unlocked positions. The secondary locking element can be moved between a primary position, in which it releases the primary element to be displaced in its primary angular rotation (f1), and a second position, in which it releases the primary element to be displaced in its secondary sense of rotation (f2).
