PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect a tumor shadow of a form not showing a core in an image, which could not be detected in conventional detecting processing. SOLUTION: A linear structure extracting means 10 extracts a linear structure in the original image on the basis of original image data P inputted from an image reader or the like. A line concentration degree calculating means 20 calculates the line concentration degree of the linear structure extracted by the linear structure extracting means 10 for each pixel in the original image. A candidate region detecting means 30 detects a candidate region of tumor shadow in the original image on the basis of the line concentration degree calculated by the line concentration degree calculating means 20.
