PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus that can simply separate areas in an image. SOLUTION: A header of image data includes area information that denotes positions of rectangular areas defined in an image and an image processing method in each area. A control section 205 sets this information to an image area discrimination section 208 prior to processing of image data by one page. When the image data are received in the raster scanning sequence, a horizontal counter 207 counts the data by each pixel in the unit of one line, a vertical counter 206 counts the data by each line in the unit of pages. An image area discrimination section 208 compares the counts with a set position of the rectangular areas and allows an image area processing section 210 to apply image processing to the image data by a designated image processing method when the image data in the defined area are received.
